- Listen to this song on youtube: 🙁
- Listen to these 45s in a Spotify playlist here with other 45s from the blog (though note, spotify doesn’t have all / many of the songs featured on the site so some playlists may be incomplete or feature slightly different versions than the original 45s I’m referring to here.
- This song is available on Musical Episode #016: Singles Mixer v. 5
Today’s 45 is a real scorcher that I was totally unaware of until I came across it while in a real-life record store. Unlike other records where you’re searching the nooks and crannies of the writing credits or racking your brain for information about the producer of the track for a tip, this one- without one second of listening- made itself known as a keeper.
Just look at the artist’s name! That alone would be enough but all of the other things you usually look for tell the same story- Bobby Robinson and Don Gardner in the writing credits, arrangements by Benny Lattimore all produced by A CERTIFIED WILDMAN!
Wildman Steve was a man of many trades and made his mark on radio from Miami to Connecticut, Adult / Risque comedy albums, music, film and thankfully today’s record. Though I can’t verify all the details of today’s selection Wildman’s drummer son Fats Gallon is presumably the namesake of this special 45. The South Carolina newspaper ad I dug up on some archives shows the act as touring in his review and interviews I’ve read with Fats confirms him working with Lattimore in the studio in Miami during these times along with playing some amazing sound shows with the likes of Joe Tex. Outside of those cursory details I haven’t been able to find much about the other players on the 45 but holy gosh goodness it’s something to behold!
I hope you enjoy today’s 45 and that we see each other on this little blog again soon!
