Good afternoon/morning/evening! We’ve got another hour of 45s for you today that are all silky smooth. This batch of 45s stretches from the late sixties all the way up to the early 80s which is a little later than I usually covered but the velvety vibe felt right and consistent.

The two latest tracks in today’s mix are from Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield so even though we’re entering a decade that’s usually out of bounds, the artists are familiar and the sounds, as you’ll hear are immaculate. I’m certainly a Curtis apologist but I don’t think I’m being bias when I say his 80’s stuff is often overlooked for the truly sublime earlier output.

Though mostly funky there are a few downtempo numbers that hold on to the smokey aura. The Cymande instrumental track really moves me and had to track down a European pressing to get it on 45, The Whatnauts deliver a commanding version of George Kerr’s composition “I Can’t Stand To See You Cry” and Yvonne Fair makes the already super funky Rufus track even slinky-er.

I know the William Devaughn track is a common one but I’ll always love the message and classic Philly sound. So much so I put both sides on here!

Hope you enjoy these smooth, smooth sounds and look forward to bringing you more music soon.

Peace,
-George / Snack Attack
