Welcome back for another Musical Episode! Today we’re going to take another dig in the girl group box! These mixes generally are kind of open ended when it comes to a strict definition of a girl group. Many of these 45s are solo artists or duos and not “groups” per-se and the sound can be a little more on the pop side or have a tougher R&B sound but to me still carry the power and stride of what is often called “girl group.”
These records also may be sort of “soul-adjecent” but everything here (and in the other “girl group sound” mixes on deck in coming weeks) fit a certain sound and feeling that I really love. Powerful, bold, playful and above all great songs!
Hard to pick a favorite out of these from Patti Drew’s absolutely crystal clear and resonant delivery to the 2 of Clubs rowdy “Heart” there’s a lot to love in this hour long mix! Hope you enjoy and see you next time.
