Hey everyone, glad to have you back here for another go around the turntable. Today we have an hour of reggae records taking a turn at American songs. Most of these records are American soul songs getting a fresh take by reggae artists, along with some takes on pop records, Beatles tunes and the Lyn Hope record is an American record that got big in Jamaican dances.
The Uniques version of Mother and Child Reunion shows how reggae was influencing music off the island. The mix opens with Toots’ absolutely masterful version- my favorite of them all- of Louie Louie Richard Berry’s song about a boat heading to the Caribbean. The guitar solo on that version is really as good as it gets for me.
Hope you enjoy this mix and we’ll be back next Friday with another podcast.
Peace,
-George / Snack Attack

Awesome!!! In the 90’s I had a burnt cd of “Souled on Reggae,” a reggae soul covers comp that I loved. Marcia Griffiths’ “Band of Gold” is still a fave!
I don’t have that one, will add it to the list!
